おばーちゃんの名言
14年前(おー、もうそんなに前か…年取ったな)、
中学生だった私は、とある英語弁論大会で北海道予選を銀メダルで通過し、全国大会へ進出した。
ええ、紛れもない、過去のさびきった栄光ですとも。
私の大大大好きだった、今は亡きおばーちゃんをテーマにしたスピーチだった。
留学生をホストファミリーとして何人も受け入れていた祖母宅。
お嬢様あがりのおばーちゃんはとってもチャーミングで、いつも笑顔で「ホホホホホ」と少女のように可愛らしく笑い、ちょっととぼけたところがポイントで、留学生の人気者だった。
すみません、大好きだったもんで、身内ながら褒め言葉ばかり。
私が訪れる際はいつもHug&Kissで迎えてくれた。
おばーちゃんから、人間として教わったことはたくさん。
英語が話せるわけではないのに留学生と巧みにコミュニケーションをとっていたそんなおばーちゃんが、こっそり私に教えてくれた「外国人とのコミュニケーション術」をスピーチの最後に結んだのだけど、今でも暗誦できるほど覚えている。いっぱい練習したもんな。
If I have a chance to go abroad or to meet foreign people,

まさに14年経過した今、留学しようとしている自分に向けてのメッセージなのかもしれない。

素敵なおばあ様ですね！！ まじその通りやと思います。 俺は今カルガリーでＷＨしてますが、毎日が失敗の連続で(笑） でも俺には10ヶ月しか無いので失敗を恐れとる暇はありません！ またカルガリーに来たらよろしくです！！

Right, we dont have a provincial sales tax so you can save a bit. Unfortunately we still have to pay the federal sales tax which is 7% though…
